Acculturation and Mental Health

Acculturation is experienced when a culture tries to adopt the ideas and customs of a different culture that is not its own. This process involves adopting and learning the values, traditions, and behaviors of other societies or groups different than theirs. This often occurs when an individual moves to a new country and tries to adopt the customs of their new environment. It also occurs when a country is colonized by another country and adopts the customs of the colonizing country.
