Read more about who we are

Affordable and free counseling and therapy in South Carolina. Our nonprofit serves clients who lack health insurance or whose health insurance doesn’t provide adequate mental health benefits. These clients also cannot afford current market rates for therapy.  Our counselors/therapists offer reduced-cost mental health services to clients who are financially qualified and eligible for this service. This provides uninsured, underinsured, low-income, or other financially challenged clients with access to quality mental health services.  This is an alternative we offer based on the client’s ability to pay. We consider their financial circumstances and offer a significantly reduced rate per session.

our approach

We help guide the next generation of mental health clinicians toward alternative options so that they can pursue their path toward becoming independent counselors/therapists/practitioners in a sustainable way that minimizes group practice politics, agency burnout, and solo practice isolation. We are doing so by providing an alternative to the long-standing business service models currently available in the mental health profession to new and up-and-coming clinicians and introducing this mental health cooperative model. We strive to build a strong commitment to serving our community.

What is a cooperative?

A cooperative (co-op) is a business or organization owned by and operated for the benefit of those using its services. Profits and earnings generated by the cooperative are used toward the day-to-day operations of the coop. Typically, an elected board of directors and officers run the cooperative, while regular members have voting power to control the direction of the cooperative. Members can become part of the cooperative by joining and paying an annual fee, though that does not affect the weight of their vote.

All proceeds from this program go to our nonprofit operations.

Reduced-Cost Mental Health Services Program

We’re proud to offer affordable in-person and online/telehealth counseling and therapy with graduate and doctoral-level interns and provisionally licensed counselors and therapists, making high-quality mental health care more accessible without compromising the professionalism or impact of services.

Through our nonprofit, The X-Studio: A Mental Health Cooperative, our Reduced- Cost Mental Health Services Program offers affordable mental health services staffed by our qualified interns and junior clinicians who provide affordable mental health services such as counseling, therapy, groups, and more to clients who are struggling with many issues and challenges. We serve individuals, couples, families, children, adolescents, and young adults who are unable to afford mental health services due to financial challenges, low or lack of income, high insurance deductibles or co-payments, or because they are under-insured or uninsured.

All proceeds from this program go to our nonprofit operations.

Our Story

Founded in 2020 by Xiomara A. Sosa, Executive Director

A different and modern kind of workspace for the next generation of mental health clinicians serving our community. A beautiful, cozy, culturally aesthetic, and inviting space with art studio vibes.

We are a community-based co-working space for interns and junior clinicians who are seeking a different model from group practice, and we provide no-cost and reduced-cost mental health services to the community.

We are not a group practice or multiple brands operating under a parent company or group. We are a cooperative (co-op).
