We accept DCVC payments. The South Carolina Department of Crime Victim Compensation (DCVC) acts as a last-resort payment source for expenses resulting from crimes, such as medical, counseling, or funeral costs, with a maximum benefit of $15,000.00. Victims must file claims within 4 years, and other insurance must be exhausted first, except for sexual assault forensic exams.

Key Aspects of DCVC Payments

  • Payer of Last Resort: DCVC only pays after all other insurance, such as health, dental, or auto insurance, has been exhausted.

  • Eligible Expenses: Cover expenses directly related to the crime, including medical care, mental health counseling (must be by licensed professionals), funeral expenses, and, in some cases, lost wages.

  • Limitations: The maximum total payout for all combined expenses is

  • Process: Providers must submit claims within 12 months of the service date.

  • Exceptions: For Sexual Assault Program (SAP) forensic exams, DCVC is the primary payer, meaning victims cannot be billed directly.

  • Requirements: The crime must have occurred in South Carolina, be reported to law enforcement, and the victim must cooperate with the investigation.
